Since 2012, Werner Rolf is teaching and research associate at TUM with visits at Universities in Ghent, Lisbon, Torino and Warsaw. Furthermore, he is executive member of IALE Germany  and IALE-Europe , reviewer for various international journals, as well as TEEB-DE and IPBES. Currently, he is co-editor-in-chief of peer-reviewed open-access e-journal Landscape Online

The research interests of Werner Rolf focus on multifunctional, integrative landscape approaches, collaborative and participatory planning approaches and land-use scenarios, including analysis and modeling of complex spatial and functional interrelations using GIS. A current research focus is on green infrastructure planning. In many years of applied research he gained experience with collaborative and transformative research approaches in the field of sustainable land use management. He has international experience in rural and urban landscapes at different scales across Europe.

  • GreenInfra: Urban Green Infrastructure – Basics, Planning and implementation in integrated city planning (Funding: German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation - BfN, 2016-2017)
  • LUIGI: Linking Urban and Inner-Alpine Green Infrastructure – Multifunctional Ecosystem Services for more liveable territories (Funding: Interreg Alpine Space, 2019-2022)

Teaching

  • Leading projects in Landscape Planning (B.Sc. and M.Sc.)
  • Leading seminars about topics of valorization of nature and landscapes (M.Sc.), landscape planning stratgegies for climate change adaptation (M.Sc.) as well as green infrastructure planning (M.Sc.)
  • Contribution to lectures such as basic landscape planning (B.Sc.), theories and methods (B.Sc./M.Sc.) and ecological basics for nature conservation and planning (M.Sc.) 
  • Member of examination board Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning (B.Sc.), Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning (M.Sc.) and Ecological Engineering (M.Sc.)
