At the Technical University of Munich, School of Life Sciences, a full-time position of a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) is available as of April 1, 2022 within the framework of a Research Training Group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The position is limited to three years. There is a possibility of extension within the duration of the Research Training Group.

The Research Training Group "Urban Green Infrastructure - Training Next Generation Professionals for Integrated Urban Planning Research" aims to explore innovative approaches for livable, sustainable and climate resilient cities through green infrastructure in an inter- and transdisciplinary way. Your responsibilities:

The Postdoc plays a central role in the professional integration of the graduate program, which focuses on green infrastructure topics in thirteen doctoral projects. Key tasks are:

1.    unite PhD projects using an integrative research approach; to do so, develop a systems approach in collaboration with the PhD candidates, Principal Investigators, as well as visiting scientists; the systems approach will qualitatively and quantitatively map key processes and ecosystem services of green infrastructure, enable the modeling of scenarios, and help to evaluate them using key indicators in order to develop transformative governance strategies;

2.    support the management and content of the qualification program for PhD candidates;

3.    promote cooperation with the City of Munich and other partners in the field;

4.    collaborate on scientific and popular science publications, events and media;

5.    advise the administrative coordinator of the Research Training Group on administrative tasks.

Your background:

  • Studies and doctorate with above-average degree in a scientific field qualifying in the topic of the research training group;
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: qualitative or quantitative system modeling, (spatial) scenario modeling, complex indicator approaches, knowledge in urban or urban open space planning;
  • High level of performance based on independent conceptual and scientific work resulting in internationally recognized publications;
  • Ability and willingness to provide technical support to a larger interdisciplinary research team; this requires excellent communication and facilitation skills, including visualization, creativity, organizational skills, and openness, as well as intercultural skills;
  • Excellent oral and written expression skills in English; German language skills are an advantage.

Our offer:

We offer a full-time position as a researcher. The position is limited to three years with the option of extension within the duration of the Research Training Group. Employment is with appropriate remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public service of the Länder (TV-L). We are seeking twelve doctoral positions (research assistant) (at 75-100%) at the Technical University of Munich and one doctoral position at the University of Augsburg within the framework of a research training group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). A further doctoral positions The positions are to start April 1, 2022 and are each limited to three years. Applications will only be considered if a research topic is clearly indicated as a first priority. Up to two further research topics can be named as second and third priority.

Your profile:

·         University education with an above-average degree in a course of study qualifying for the research topic or a comparable qualification;

·         Specific professional interest in research on at least one of the topics;

·         High motivation with the aim of independent conceptual and scientific work;

·         Ability and eagerness to integrate into one of the research groups and the graduate school.
